Days 5, 6, & 7….Around the World I Go??

So far, so good!  Saturday was a no-spend day, today was a no-spend day, and yesterday I spent a paltry $12.87 on Super Bowl goodies to take to a friend’s house.

I’ve realized that this challenge is happening at quite a significant time in my life.  Quite frankly, I’ve been through hell & back again multiple times over the past few months.  I keep wondering if the latest mishap is the point where things have finally bottomed out, but I’m realizing that the ramifications of these months will be felt for quite some time.

Now, what does all of this have to do with finances?  To put it bluntly, quite a bit.  I find myself at a crossroads:  Not sure who I am, what I want, nor what I want to do with my life.  I am questioning everyone and everything lately.  I’m also wondering if another career change may be in the works.

What’s been eating at me the most, however, is the idea of taking a year off.  A complete year off.  No work, no grad school, no continuous drag of job-to-job, day-to-day monotony.  A year to do nothing……except to travel.  A year to travel the world–that is what my thoughts have been consumed with over the past few days.  While there are too many variables right now to make an informed decision, I have to admit that I’m already researching the possibility……

  1. I have to say, I find it pretty interesting you are at such a loss with such an amazing bucket list! I am actually supremely envious of your bucket list and think it gives you lots of things to work towards and measure yourself with. One thing worth pointing out is that bucket lists aren't frozen. They can, and probably should, be frequently reviewed and edited. You can always take something off, and add it back again if you change your mind. You totally have that right, it's your life! Traveling the world does sound wonderful and is absolutely viable for a single person. If you get a lot value from helping others, you can probably do something like join the peace corps or an organization that does humanitarian trips all over the world. Look into Earthwatch. Also check out the blog, The Art of Non-Conformity. I think you'll be quite inspired with his amazing story.

  2. Thank you so much for your comment! I agree that things are a bit skewed right now. Also, I agree with the idea that these types of lists are dynamic–although, in my case, I can only see more being added :) I will definitely be checking out those sites you've recommended; thanks again!!!
