Per my last post where I sang the praises of “Excuses Aren’t Valid Anymore,” I’ve decided to move ahead with some of the listed proposals aimed at reaching an overall goal of minimizing my spending and changing some of my financial habits that relate to spending.
First up is a clothing ban. In order to successfully implement such a thing, I devised the following set of “rules and regulations:”
- Conduct an accurate assessment of the current state of my dressers & closet
- Use information garnered from said assessment in order to formulate goals/needs/wants (in my case, a complete spending ban on clothing–I truly don’t need anything)
- Set a timeline with specific benchmarks (because this is my first official ban of anything, I’m going to set a realistic goal of sticking with it for three months–June, July, August)
- Identify potential temptations/weaknesses and develop a plan for overcoming these (for me, no shopping in malls and automatically deleting any merchant emails should do just the trick)
- Realize that setbacks/mistakes happen, but that I must continue on despite any faltering
So, without further adieu, my clothing ban officially begins June 1st! (although I won’t be shopping for the remainder of May as well)
