Up Yours, Gas Station!

Last month I highlighted my decision to bike to work in my post, 10 Reasons for Biking to Work.  Tomorrow marks one month of daily bike commutes to/from my office (10.5 miles each way) and I could not be happier with how rewarding this decision has proven to be:

  • I haven’t put gas in my tank since July 8th, and I still have 1/2 left!
  • I have driven my car twice in the past 30 days–and this was only because I had to go straight from work to the airport
  • My body has responded quite well to the new workouts (better muscle tone, increased cardio capacity, etc)
  • The increased activity level has spurred an increased emphasis on eating well to fuel my body, so my diet has also improved
  • I’ve become the “office inspiration” for exercise–some of my co-workers are now increasing their own exercise regimen and have commented to me that I’m their inspiration
  • I’ve saved at least $120 by not having to fill my tank for the past month (based on average expenditure over the past 6 months)

Have you made any recent changes that have yielded multiple benefits?

  1. I am so glad you really enjoyed it. I hope you continue as long as the weather permits. My husband walks to work, but it is only a few blocks away, I don't think that counts. We did stop driving to the post office and library since they are only a few blocks away too. I don't drive very much, but that is about to change with soccer practices for three kids.

  2. That's wonderful! I'm doing the same thing and it's great. I alternate between riding and walking and I love it. All the benefits you mentioned are fantastic :)
