Day Four: No $$ Spent, & New Savings Goals

Another day, another dollar.  Or in this case, another day, another dollar not spent!  This challenge is  turning out to be a great thing for my new spending mindset.  I made a hard decision to turn down plans with friends despite a very enticing offer to have dinner at my favorite restaurant and a previously planned date falling through.  Although I must say that this is the type of behavior I typically employ, not the super-spending ways of the past few months.  When I was saving for my down payment, I often sought out cheaper or free alternatives to most everything.  I’m happy to see some semblance of those old habits resurfacing….

With regards to savings, I realized that it may be time to set up some e-fund sub-accounts to keep track of specific goals.  While all of my $$ will end up in the same account, I’ve been toying with the idea of creating these smaller subsets in my monthly budget sheets for my own tracking purposes.  I read an article recently that touted this concept as it is supposed to be a better avenue for success; giving each potential goal/want/need an actual dollar value bodes well with the philosophy that smaller, more defined financial goals are often the easiest to attain.

I’m going to give this some thought over the weekend, and I hope to have some tangible goals/direction setup soon.  This will also lead to some fantastic sidebars going up to track the progress.    I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a fantastic start!
