For those of you who are new to The Happy Homeowner, welcome! To all of my readers new and old, thank you. I thoroughly enjoy reading your comments, and I appreciate the time you take to stop by.
When I first contemplated beginning a blog, I thought long & hard about what type of blog to write. Based on my voracious appetite for all things financial coupled with my need to stay financially transparent & accountable, I chose to go the PF route.
However, in choosing the title of my blog, I knew that I wanted it to be something that said more about who I am as a person, even if I would be blogging quasi-anonymously. And so I settled on “The Happy Homeowner.”
Webster’s Dictionary defines ‘happy’ in the following ways:
- favored by luck or fortune
- notably fitting, effective, or well adapted
-
enjoying or characterized by well-being and contentment
- expressing, reflecting, or suggestive of happiness
- glad, pleased
- having or marked by an atmosphere of good fellowship: friendly
-
characterized by a dazed irresponsible state
- impulsively or obsessively quick to use or do something
- enthusiastic about something to the point of obsession
When I first viewed these definitions, I laughed. At the risk of sounding like some sort of space cadet who has sunshine & rainbows spewing from its orifices (awesome mental picture, no?), I AM all of those things. I’m fortunate to have had the wake-up call I so desperately needed in order to gain a stronger financial footing. I am effective in setting and reaching goals, I’m pleased with my progress, and I’m paying my blessings forward in an effort to give back/be friendly to my community members.
I’m also irresponsible to have ever had $14K in credit card debt. I still battle my inner impulse-shopping tendencies, I still obsess over the numbers despite my efforts to maintain balance, and I scream of good deeds & happiness so much on this blog that I wouldn’t be surprised to find some readers who are sick of me and my sunshine.
But, at the end of the day, I am happy to be who I am, where I am at this point of my life, and act as I do. While this blog has its roots in my own needs, I’m proud that it’s evolving into a catalyst of positivity that has sparked an interest in others to pay their own blessings forward.
I can only hope that my story will inspire others to continue moving forward financially as well–no matter how difficult the path. And in an effort to pay homage to the “Homeowner” in me, I’ll be sharing some additional thoughts & resources about balancing domestic bliss and your bottom line.
Stay tuned for a few new directions and what I hope will be a wealth of information. As always, please do share your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions.
good for you! I agree with the name. I also chose something that reflected my love of budgeting and personal finance, but gave the impression that I would also be writing about marriage and relationships, etc.
New to the site — I sadly am not as "happy" of a homeowner as yourself. I constantly blog about home ownership not really being worth it to me. Regardless, I will follow you and how that I find some hope in your posts!
Love your blog, don't change a thing, if I wanted to be depressed I would watch the news, reading happy blogs is much better!!!
Sunshine and rainbows out of orifices! Haha. Yeah, that mental image kind of made my day.I agree that blog names say a lot about who we are. Mine comes from my study of eastern thought, and this kind of pervasive expectation that there's a way or path to all things. Then, it is also about my lack of courage in chasing what I want. It's a journey to find my path.I agree with Debbie. Keep doing what you're doing.
@Newlyweds–Thanks! I like the title of yours–it works quite well considering your content, etc.@Drew–Welcome! I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had a great experience with owning your home. I certainly do hope you find some inspiration here; please continue to leave comments/feedback.@Debby–I agree!@Matt–Whatever I can do to make someone's day…hahaha. Love your blog name's explanation.
Always happy reading such an inspirational blog.
