Kilimanjaro or Bust!

Well life certainly has an interesting way of working itself out lately! While I was all set to write a follow-up of yesterday’s post, The How of Setting Financial Goals, I’ll have to save that for tomorrow as I have some most exciting news: I’m going to be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in October!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (excuse me while I jump around & scream at the top of my lungs for the 500th time today)

Considering that one of my 2012 goals was to add $2K to my Kilimanjaro fund and I’ve just secured the complete package (flight, guides, trek, hotel before & after trek, meals, park fees, etc) for a mere $2,500, I think I’ve effectively kicked another goal’s arse to the curb. Unfortunately, I have to pay for everything up front so I will be pulling the money from savings. BUT, I’ve already set up a plan to have every penny of that money back in my account by June, and I’m working on a few details to pull in some extra income between now & then.

This could of course be viewed as financially irresponsible given the use of savings for travel, but I’ve already detailed my love of travel and how it ultimately will forever be a part of my life. I also took great care prior to booking to ensure that this was indeed in the financial cards this year. This is the difference between the financial disaster I used to be and the confident, pay-myself-first, set-and-reach-financial-goals Happy Homeowner I am today. A freaking fabulous way to start the week, indeed.

How was your Monday?!

  1. You are so unbelievable. You defy the boundaries of awesomeness. I might wake up tomorrow and read that you've just cleared all of your 2012 goals. I don't doubt it is possible either :pThat is a killer sweet deal you seem to have landed. Will you be going at it alone? As for my Monday, I slept most of it as I worked last night :) I hope you have an awesome week.

  3. Yay! I love Kilimanjaro – I've never climbed to the top, but I did spend a few weeks going between several of the villages when I was 15. You'll have an amazing time.

  4. Sorry – I deleted my original comment since I was on a different gmail account, but anyway – Congrats!!!!! That is not expensive at all for the experience of a lifetime. I am so jealous, I hope you have an amazing time and share some pics with us :) You are truly an inspiration!!!!!Thank you so much for your input on the loan stuff. I really wish these so called "professionals" were looking out for the buyers' best interests but all they care about is themselves! The lender wanted to guarantee that we would get the place but I really didn't like it how he persuaded us into something that we were unsure of. I'm going to do a bit more research on homepath loans. For the most part, how was your experience w/ Fannie Mae, and is there anything else I should know about buying a Fannie Mae property? I'd really love to know! Shoot me an email at so we can talk more about it, if you have time! I don't want to clog up this comment area haha :) I really appreciate all your advice!

  6. Hmm… nothing super specific comes immediately to mind. Are you starting off from Tanzania or Kenya? I really enjoyed talking to the locals; everyone I met in Tanzania was lovely, and I had some really great conversations that I never anticipated.
