“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”
~John F. Kennedy

Despite the big changes happening in my professional life, I’ve decided to march onward with my plan to overhaul this blog (because really, what’s another ball in the air right now, eh?) Over the next few days, you may not see much happening because a ton is going on behind the scenes:

  • I’ll be moving from Blogger to WordPress
  • The look, feel, and navigation of the new site will be completely different than what you see here
  • I’m going to step out of the anonymity shadow (gulp!)
  • Maybe, just maybe, I’ll share a photo of myself–perhaps on Twitter, perhaps on the new blog, perhaps on both

In the spirit of all things HH 2.0, I’m reaching out to you for your advice, criticisms, and opinions about The Happy Homeowner (even if you’re just passing by–I’d definitely like to hear your first impression(s) if you are!). In the comments, I’d love if you could share:

  • What you like about this blog in terms of design
  • What you would like to see added for version 2.0
  • What you don’t want to see carried over to WordPress
  • What you’re most interesting in reading about
  • Your thoughts on introducing content from my other blog (DIY, Home Improvement, and Decor)
  • Any additional insights you have

So bear with me as I make a truly epic change to how things are operating around here. It’s time to lay my cards on the table in more than just the professional environment, and I look forward to bringing you one hell of an upgrade….

  1. Your current blog design is fine. However, I think that you're decision to move to WordPress is a big plus. Just make sure that you choose the self-managed WordPress blog. With WordPress you have greater control and flexibility over your blog design, which will allow you greater freedom. The downside is that you'll have to pay for hosting and a domain name, but you're probably doing that already with Blogger.

  2. you could definitely add DIY/home decor/etc and merge your blogs. Since your blog is called the happy homeowner, the renovation stuff falls exactly into place here! good luck! :)

  3. Yah for stepping out of the shadows! If you're coming out, you should do it with a video or a landmark post like 40 things you don't know about me or something like that.

  4. I'm really excited over here. From a design perspective, I can't really say much as I don't pay a lot of attention to design so long as I can read your main content and there is an efficient commenting system.Things that are important to me though are a search bar for searching all your amazing content since sometimes I remember a post and a search bar helps to locate it especially when it is really old.I also like labels somewhat as sometimes if I get a "home improvement" kick, I can quickly click the "home improvement" label and find a wealth of content there. And keep the net worth graph :) Most importantly, I just want you to keep writing. Looking forward to the future.

  5. I am excited to see you out of anonymous world as well. Trust me when I say that it feels great to "come out" about your finances to the world. Our friends and family have been sooo supportive of us, since we started the blog, it has really been amazing.

  6. I never thought for one minute about being anonymous – so thankfully never had that "heart in throat" decision to make. But I do like how clear it is to read your blog – and YES keep the net worth graph

  7. Woohoo! I can't wait for HH 2.0. I love reading your "Confessions" series and how you're making money post-quit.

  8. Wait, you have another blog? Have you ever linked to it here? I would advocate for including some of that content here, but then driving all of us to go over there too so you get the benefit of more traffic. :)

  9. I want to switch to WordPress too but I don't want to lose my Alexa ranking! Do you know if that will change? I'm interested to hear all about it because I would love to do it too.I'm looking forward to you coming out of anonymity (or at least a little bit). I also just can't wait to hear more personal stories. It seems like there is a lot of huge life changes for us PF bloggers lately, and it's been fun reading about everyone!
