A few weeks ago, I challenged a lot of you to consider the idea of whether or not looking good costs money. At the end of the post, I shared a bunch of my tips for how to cut back on expenses that relate to maintaining your appearance, including swapping clothes, making your own beauty products, and non-monetary boosts such as smiling and exercising. I had some great feedback, and I want to continue with sharing more ways to stretch your dollars–this time with fashion.
Save Big by Shopping Online
Aside from being a very convenient way to shop if you know your sizes (shopping for jeans in my PJs in bed? Yes, please!). Not only do you save on gas expenses and wear & tear, but you don’t have to put up with insane traffic and throngs of bargain-hunting shoppers. You can also comparison shop much more easily by pulling up multiple browser windows side by side. But about saving money while buying clothes online?
You can save big if you use online coupon codes for your favorite stores. Not only can you usually stack these against the current sales running, but you can often also score great deals with free shipping, free returns, and rewards for your next visit.
Behold the Power of Email Lists
If you’re an avid shopper, regardless of in-store or online, you should definitely sign up for your favorite store’s email lists. I have a separate email account that I use for shopping deals (I do the same to save big bucks on travel), and I routinely monitor it for the best savings, sales, and redemption codes that come along.
I have a friend who recently purchased a few items online from John Lewis, and she saved 40% on her purchase by redeeming the discount codes she had in her email. Overall, it’s a painless, easy way to save on the things you’d already buy anyway!
Pay Attention to Cycles and Seasons
My favorite way to shop is off-season. This is how I score crazy deals such as a $200 bathing suit for $25, new snowboarding goggles for $30 (instead of $150), and winter coats for pennies on the dollar. I also have learned to pay attention to the sales cycles of the stores I frequent most. For example, I know that Macy’s runs huge sales around the various holidays throughout the year and they’re known for a killer clearance after the Christmas holiday is over.
The next time you’re in the store or are perusing their website, take note of what your favorite retailer happens to be featuring in their sales. This simple act could save you plenty of money down the line.
I love to shop online especially if they have something that I want. It’s convenient too. I just take the time to look for coupon codes to use. Saves me a lot.
