Traveling to the east coast is exciting because there are so many sights to visit. Philadelphia is one a popular city for tourists because of the cultural and historical sites that appeal to all ages and its proximity to many other metropolitan regions.
The central location makes it a great destination while en route to another location or just a place for a great domestic vacation. From the city center to the museums and other attractions, there are plenty of accommodations to choose from when it comes time to book a stay near all of the action downtown.
Liberty Bell and Historical Sites
The Liberty Bell is the most visited attraction in the city, with more than 3 million people viewing it each year. The bell is famous for its crack and is historical significance. Many famous early founders, such as Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and John Adams, are all associated with the bell. There are several hotels within walking distance of this attraction.
The Betsy Ross House is a famous stop in the city because people want to see where the U.S. flag was sewn in her hands.Elfreth’s Alley is the oldest residential street in America and some of the homes along it are original to the era. A few of them have been made in to museums to preserve the look of the time but others remain private and are not open to the public.
Zoo and Museums
One big attraction for families is the Philadelphia Zoo, located near the downtown Philadelphia hotels. Its location is convenient to the 1 million visitors who come to see the animals each year and need a place to stay overnight. The National Constitution Center is the home to the U.S. Constitution, where the original founding documents for freedom are located. Scores of visitors and tourists make the stroll through the museum to get a glimpse of the signatures of the founding fathers and other historically significant artifacts from the time.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Please Touch Museum and Franklin Square are all places that welcome families and individuals who want to learn more about history and the United States. The Declaration House is the home where Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration at night, after meetings with the other founding fathers.
Sporting Events
There are stadiums downtown where the professional city teams play, including the Philadelphia Phillies, the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia 76ers. Millions of fans flock to the games and cheer on their teams and can spend the night in the city instead of driving home late at night or in bad weather.
There are over 80 hotels in the several city block wide area, providing ample opportunities to find something in the budget range that is perfect for your stay, no matter how long or how short it is.
Been on vacation to Philadelphia and done many of these things. There is only one reason though people go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art…to run the steps like Rocky! Gonna fly now…
