Please enjoy this guest post as I work on some new content for The Happy Homeowner!
Summer is on its way and if you’re thinking that you’d like to have more guests over in the coming months but are put off by your house’s appearance; don’t worry. There are loads of things you can do to completely transform your home, and all for hardly any money!
Below are just a few ideas you can follow to help make your house a home again, and impress your guests at the same time.
Have a Big Old Clear Out
This is the first stage and can actually be a whole lot of fun. Be ruthless; go through your house and fill up as many black bags as you can with anything that’s taking up too much space or is unwanted.
Not only will this create a lot of extra space but it could make you a bit of money too. Organize everything you’ve decided you don’t want anymore into piles that can be thrown away or sold. Do a car boot sale or just put some stuff on eBay and use the money to help breathe a bit of life into your house.
Sell Some Stuff on eBay
Don’t be afraid to get rid of furniture and larger items too. If you have things you’d like to replace such as tables, sofas or antiques you can sell them online and then arrange for a delivery company to send them to the buyer. Courier services are extremely well priced, safe and dependable and could really help you make some money to spend on DIY!
Give it a New Coat of Paint
With the money you’ve made on your sold items and the space you’ve created, buy a few tins of paint to give the house a quick once-over. You’ll be amazed at how much this can transform your home.
Take up the Carpet
Carpets can really start to look grimy over time. Stains, rips, discoloration; all of this contributes to the overall atmosphere of your house. Pull up that old, tired carpet and leave the bare wood exposed. Just giving your new floor a quick coat of varnish will have it looking chic and expensive in absolutely no time at all.
Buy a Few New Pieces of Furniture
Now that you’ve made space, sorted your walls and ripped up your old carpet, why not use the leftover money to buy one or two new items of furniture that complement the house? You can buy them second hand for bargain prices – now all you have to do is sit back, relax and marvel at your new pad!
