Even if you are excited about your new home or even a new city, moving can be a difficult task that you dread for weeks beforehand.
You might feel like no matter how much time you spend packing or how much care you take with your belongings, things end up scratched or even broken, and you usually spend much more time than you planned on the actual move itself.
However, with a little preparation and the right tools, moving day doesn’t have to be a horrible day.
Pack Like a Pro
Because moving can be expensive with new security deposits, first month’s rent, or paint and remodeling costs, the last thing you want to do is spend extra money on your move. But you should because there are a few things you can purchase that will make your move much easier and you’ll be thankful you had them in the end.
First, buy boxes instead of using old, worn out boxes that have been used before. Purchasing boxes allows you to choose the size and you can also rest assured that your boxes won’t fall apart during your move. You should also buy lots of packing tape and a large roll of bubble wrap. As tempting as it may be to reuse old boxes and wrap your valuables in old newspaper, you are more likely to arrive at your new home with all your valuables intact if you pack them properly.
Get the Right Moving Tools
Even if you are only moving a few miles away, you should rent a moving truck. This way, you can move most or all of your belongings in one trip as opposed to making numerous trips back and forth between your old place and your new one. This will save you a lot of time, stress, and aggravation.
Moving trucks make it much easier to move large items, such as furniture, that won’t fit into even large vehicles like trucks or SUVs. You can also rent hand trucks from the same company that rented you the moving truck, so you might want to consider taking advantage of the added convenience. Moving large and heavy objects can be not only difficult and annoying, but it can also be dangerous. Your back will thank you later for this one. You might also consider renting moving blankets from your truck rental company and using them to cover furniture in the truck, which will prevent scratches.
Money Well Spent on Moving
Moving is never fun, but it doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out process that takes several days, lots of trips, and results in the destruction of some of your belongings. Pack efficiently and expertly and use the things that are available from moving companies.
If you really want to make your move easier and you have the extra income, hire someone to do the moving for you. But if you are going to execute the move yourself, make sure you have the right items on hand and that you are fully prepared the day you get to your new home. All of your preparation will pay off when you start unpacking those boxes.
